Timothy J. Birney, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic specialist at Western Orthopaedics, P.C., in Denver, Colorado. He specializes in disorders of the spine, utilizing advances in technology to deliver results for previously difficult to treat problems, such as balloon kyphoplasty for compression fractures and the X-STOP® device and microdecompression for spinal stenosis. He treats each patient as he would a family member or friend, choosing surgical intervention only when the spinal conditions are unresponsive to nonoperative care.
Dr. Birney earned his Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, before moving to Pennsylvania to earn his medical degree with honors and his residency from the University of Pittsburgh. After his residency, Dr. Birney completed a spinal surgery fellowship at the State University of New York in Buffalo.
Dr. Birney is a well-respected speaker and publicist on spinal disorders. He is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the North American Spine Society, the Colorado Orthopaedic Society, the Colorado Medical Society, the Denver Medical Society, and the Simmons Surgical Society.
Once a month, Dr. Birney sees patients at outreach clinics in Kansas.
